The Solid Gold Cadillac

(out of 5)

Fans of ‘s excellent performance in Born Yesterday should definitely not skip their chance to see this excellent crowd pleaser. She plays a streetwise bachelorette who inherits a few shares in a crookedly-run corporation. Attending a stockholder’s meeting, she raises too many questions to the money-grubbing directors, forcing them to hire her onto their staff in order to shut her up. To our delight, it doesn’t work, and pretty soon she’s teaming up with former CEO  to clean the company up from top to bottom. All of Holliday’s charm and edgy wit from Yesterday is here, but what’s an extra treat is the savvy intelligence she gets to wield in order to ascend the corporate ladder. America would have to wait four more years for the release of the ultimate film on the burgeoning corporate scene in the big metropolis, The Apartment, but this wonderful comedy was surely enough to tide the screens over with until then.
