Children Of The Century

Bil’s rating (out of 5):  BB.5.

Original title:  Les Enfants Du Siecle

is excellent as George Sand in this incredibly soapy drama. The story focuses on her tempestuous relationship with Alfred de Musset () as they each try to excel at their writing while also surviving their dangerous love for each other. Sand abandons family life to follow Musset around until his destructive treatment of her convinces her to go home and leave him for good, but this doesn’t mean that their connection is over. Beautiful costumes and sets, plus Diane Kurys’s insistence on keeping the dramatic presentation real are assets to the production, but the script is laden with doomed love-affair cliches.
