This Ridley Scott disaster chronicles Christopher Columbus discovering America, trying to maintain a peaceful colony there until the Spanish government recalled him to Europe. Gerard Depardieu puts a lot of energy into the lead role, but the screenplay is wooden and the film drags on endlessly. Sigourney Weaver does a fair bit of good as the Spanish queen who believes in Columbus, but she constantly seems out of place from the rest of the movie whenever she’s on screen.
