Charming, breezy movie about a group of youngsters trying to find a party in downtown Manhattan on New Year’s Eve in the 80s. Paul Rudd and Courtney Love are two best friends recently broken up from their lovers who find themselves discovering each other on the way to the fete; Jay Mohr and Kate Hudson are a couple on a first date trying to survive the night; Christina Ricci and Gaby Hoffmann are two girls from Long Island looking for a good time but are hoping they won’t get mugged; at the center of it all, Martha Plimpton is the hostess who thinks her party will bite because no one is showing up! Former casting agent Risa Bramon Garcia makes her directorial debut with this comedy that features a very colourful look and convincing (if overly stylized) recreation of the now-nostalgic period it takes place in. Where else do you get the opportunity to see Courtney Love singing ‘Through The Eyes of Love’?
