Agnes Varda makes a stunning portrait of recklessness with this fascinating, compelling and sometimes hard to watch drama. Sandrine Bonnaire is exceptional as a middle-class, working woman who drops it all to wander the countryside of France, getting into trouble, sleeping in the homes of strangers and existing without limits or boundaries. The various individuals that she encounters, befriends or crosses swords with make up the bulk of the journey, one that will frustrate you with her lack of personal control. Varda never apologizes for her lead character, instead showing an honest portrait of the attractive aspects to her lifestyle as well as the many drawbacks.
