Fascinating, incredibly odd drama about a secret cult that worships chance. After being the lone survivor of a plane crash, a man is recruited into a society whose members believe that good luck is truly contagious. The group’s leader (Eusebio Poncela) is an earthquake survivor who lost his good luck when his casino boss (Max von Sydow), a Holocaust survivor, evicted him and took away his good fortune. Also involved is a cop (Mónica López) who survived a car crash that claimed her family’s life and who is now investigating the group’s illegal activities while also becoming deeply tied up in them. These characters take part in some very scary exercises (running into live traffic blindfolded, etc.) until their destinies intertwine and fate is left to decide the winner. The atmosphere is so rich it drips, and the characters are all drawn with great depth and skill.
