Come on, we knew it would be terrible but couldn’t it have at least been funny? This spoof on a most deserving target, the schlocky, formulaic romantic comedies that Hollywood churns out by the bucket load, has some moments that induce a chuckle but is otherwise total trash. Alyson Hannigan plays an overweight Bridget Jones parody who gets her ride ‘pimped’ by date doctor Hitch in the form of a major crash diet, meets the love of her life on The Bachelor and takes him home to meet her Big, Fat Greek father (Eddie Griffin!), Indian mother and Japanese sister (oh, and they’re Jewish too). Hannigan is game for all the ridiculous pranks, and Adam Campbell makes a winning Hugh Grant rip-off, but the humour never rises above high-school pranks and even immature teenagers won’t even be that captivated by it. Jennifer Coolidge‘s meanass imitation of Barbra Streisand in Meet The Fockers is classic, but her part is so small that it barely makes an impression despite her fantastic talents. I’d give it a zero if it weren’t for the really cruel and tasteless Michael Jackson joke that I laughed my ass off at.
