My Old Addiction

Yossi And Jagger

(out of 5)

Israeli soldiers find love among the ruins in this far too short but still affecting drama. While posted on the border between Israel and Lebanon, a troupe of soldiers prepare for an ambush that cuts into their personal dramas. While two of the young men, Yossi and Jagger (so called because they all think he looks like a rock star) have a secret, passionate affair that none of the others know about, one of two young women at the base nurses a heartbreaking crush for Jagger and another enjoys herself with a married colonel. At sixty-something minutes, the film is too brief to really get into the emotional depths of its story, but its characters are likable and director Eytan Fox gets a lot of tender sentimentality out of material that has scene setups more reminiscent of gay porn than intellectual drama.
