Atom Egoyan creates an intoxicating view of a seedy underworld in this film whose story revolves around a house of burlesque called “Exotica”. The main characters who collide and interact are a young woman (Mia Kirshner) who dances at the club, the club’s beautiful owner (Arsinée Khanjian), a tax auditor (Bruce Greenwood) who is a frequent patron, the club’s DJ (Elias Koteas) and a pet store owner (Don McKellar) who picks men up at the opera. How everyone manages to connect to each other is unnaturally forced, but there are moments of visual brilliance and emotional depth to make it a worthy experience.
