Murray Head plays an insular bus driver in this moody film. His circular route around the city in his bus is only temporary until he can leave for good on a cross-country trip inspired by his favourite author Jack Kerouac, specifically the classic Beat novel On The Road. Head envisions himself a man of emotional solace until a young woman boards his bus and touches something in him that he can’t shake. The atmosphere is very mellow, the look hypnotic, but don’t let the film’s surrealistic nonchalance throw you: it boils down to a very memorable twist in its finale.
