Mission: Impossible

(out of 5)

Brian De Palma has done a great job with bringing the classic sixties television show to a nineties sensibility, and he’s got a veritable movie star like to pull it off without a hitch. Cruise plays superspy Ethan Hunt, who witnesses his entire team get murdered in front of him and is then framed for letting their names leak to outside sources. Now disavowed, he teams up with fellow rogues and   to infiltrate the crime ring of a cyber thief (a delicious ) while trying to discern if concerned fellow survivor  is as honest as she seems. Staged marvelously, the film has an overly convoluted plot for added fun, then climaxes with a marvelous action sequence aboard a fictionally-enhanced English Chunnel ride.
