Cusack, who also co-wrote the script based on the book by Nick Hornby, is at his sleepy best as the record store owner who can’t seem to get wise to what the women in his life want from him.  is hysterical as the acid-mouthed employee at the store, and ,  and  are also memorable as some of the women in his life. Later made into a stage musical.
