Love In The Time Of Hysteria (Solo Con Tu Pareja)

BB

(out of 5)

Don Juan-ish enjoys a myriad of ladies in his bedroom, never for a moment considering a relationship (or even safe sex) with any of them. When he angers a sexy nurse whom he beds the same night that he pleases his demanding advertising agency boss, she takes revenge on him by fudging his blood test results and letting him think he’s HIV positive. The result has Gimenez thinking he’s dying, but also puts him in the way of the beautiful stewardess next door that he’s been in love with for some time. Alfonso Cuaron’s early feature shows much of the visual flair that audiences would love in Y Tu Mama Tambien, but his later work is much fresher and smarter; as appealing as the actors are here, and the story is fun (despite being incredibly politically incorrect), the pacing is sluggish and the tone is a bit too melancholy for a comedy.
