After years of a seemingly happy marriage, Lianna (Linda Griffiths) decides to leave her husband because she can no longer deny the fact that she is a lesbian. Entering the dating scene after so long is treacherous enough, but navigating her way through one she is unfamiliar with is even harder until she realizes that love can make itself known under any circumstances. When she meets a teacher (Jane Hallaren) with whom she clicks, Lianna has to take a chance on commitment and see if it could possibly work out for her, all the while dealing with a spurned husband, unsure children and increasingly distanced friends. John Sayles treats this woman’s experience with unreserved intelligence, sensitivity, and warmth, plus provides the audience with compelling drama that enlightens and entertains at the same time.
