Lindsay Doran stated that it was Ang Lee’s deft handling of family dynamics in this wonderful film that convinced her that he was perfect for the job of helming her marvelous production of Sense and Sensibility. This beautiful tale is the story of a father and his relationships with his three very different daughters, all of whom leave their troubles at the door every week and join him for a skillfully prepared meal at home. At least that’s what they think they do, since the more they try to keep their problems to themselves, the more they can’t help but reveal about conflicts, insecurites and travels through the murky world of men. Not as jovially funny as Lee’s The Wedding Banquet, but equally touching. Remade in the U.S. among a Latino family as Tortilla Soup.
