The California amateur drag-racing scene is the setting for this exciting car movie, and like the title suggests it is very fast and extremely furious, not to mention fun. Paul Walker stars as a novice race car driver (but is that all he is?) who joins a race car gang led by the mighty Vin Diesel. Performances help a pretty flat script that is dominated by cliched characters, but what is most energizing about the film is the fantastic editing, a great score and car chase scenes that beat out even the best stunt work in Gone in 60 Seconds. Diesel dominates the film with his portrayal, while Walker is not as successful; it’s not a huge drawback, especially considering their chemistry with each other, neither is the weak and predictable ending, but considering the much better work that is being done by female love interests Jordana Brewster and especially Michelle Rodriguez, you’d think the filmmakers would have realized that the girls deserved a lot more of the dramatic weight than they are given to handle.
