Original title:  Le Mystere Picasso

France, 1956.  .  Cinematography by .  Produced by Henri-Georges Clouzot.  Music by .  Film Editing by .  Cannes Film Festival 1956.

Fascinating experimental film, in which Henri-Georges Clouzot films painting a canvas right onto the screen (he’s actually painting on specially designed, transparent canvasses), giving a first-class view into the complete artistic process. The paintings themselves are beautiful, and the music is memorable as well. Art fanatics will definitely want to see this, while more narrative-oriented audiences should probably rent a conventional biography (like Surviving Picasso) instead.
