The Lonely Passion of Judith Hearne

(out of 5)

is terrific as a lonely Irish old maid whose devotion to Catholicism has kept her prim and naïve for just about her whole life. When , as an Americanized Irishman, enters the picture and captures her heart, she begins to doubt the religion to which she has given her whole life and slowly things start to unravel for her. The film’s story itself isn’t always mesmerizing, but Smith’s performance will keep you interested if nothing else will.
