Drug addicts are the central focus of this charismatic, uncompromising drama by Gus Van Sant. Matt Dillon does his best work as the leader of a group of junkies who go from town to town, drugstore to drugstore, stealing as many prescription meds as they can get to feed their needs. When Dillon has a close encounter with the law and it inspires him to straighten up, he is met with resistance from his girlfriend (Kelly Lynch) who wants to keep their party lifestyle going forever. Heather Graham and James Le Gros also star in this excellent film that features a wonderful visual style and a pristine screenplay.
