Canada, 1999. Thump Productions. Screenplay by Semi Chellas. Cinematography by Norayr Kasper. Produced by Ilana Frank. Music by Ron Sures. Production Design by Jasna Stefanovic. Costume Design by Morganne Newson. Film Editing by Nick Rotundo, George Roulston.
Ineffectual drama that attempts an examination of the nature of circumstances. In the opening scene, a bakery is robbed and people are killed in the mayhem that ensues. Following that, the plot rewinds an entire day to the morning of the incident, where all of the characters involved live their day a bit differently to provide another outcome in the end. This plot machination would be useful if we actually knew what their day was like the first time around, but since we don’t, it ends up being a pretty useless exercise featuring some very talented actors. Sarah Polley plays a woman contemplating her recent decision to move in with her boyfriend and Catherine O’Hara is excellent as a dress shop owner who goes out on a date. Also stars Stephen Rea, Fab Filippo and Joe Pantoliano.
