David Fincher’s exquisite mindgame is a fascinating film with no end of surprises. Michael Douglas plays a wealthy man for whom nothing new can be bought, until his errant little brother (Sean Penn) comes up with something: he signs Douglas up for a “game”, a manhunt in which you are become the target of strange events and have to keep yourself somehow afloat. Suddenly Douglas has no money and no identity as the game turns deadly and he is unable to distinguish between reality and purchased fantasy. As an audience member you will also be completely submerged in the surreal nature of this film as you are thrown in different directions until the fantastic climax.
