Jeremy Davies is trying to balance a new, possibly great relationship with trying to find the road to success in his career, all under the dark umbrella of teen angst. Hindering him: his inability to masturbate in peace, and his growing sexual relationship with his mother. Sound like family fun? How can a film with such controversial subject matter be so dry? David O. Russell went on to far better projects as director with his follow-up Flirting With Disaster and Three Kings, so this indie bomb can be quite forgiven. Alberta Watson is brilliant as the rather confused matriarch who can’t resist her attraction to her own son, but the rest of it is boring.
