A mentally challenged woman (Mary Stuart Masterson) is an emotional burden on her kindly brother (Aidan Quinn) until a mysterious Buster Keaton-loving stranger (Johnny Depp) enters her life and perks her up. The performances are excellent, especially a sympathetic Masterson, but this narrow view of the small-town world of handicapped Americans is flat and uninvolving. Also stars Julianne Moore and Oliver Platt.
