USA, 1993. Hollywood Pictures, Touchwood Pacific Partners 1. Screenplay by Jonathan Marc Feldman. Cinematography by Jerzy Zielinski. Produced by Mark Gordon, John Bard Manulis. Music by James Horner. Production Design by Allan Cameron. Costume Design by Jenny Beavan. Film Editing by Michael R. Miller.
Two teenage Berlin boys (Robert Sean Leonard, Christian Bale) are obsessed with swing music and have a great time whooping it up until the increasing power of the Nazi party puts their friendship to the test. Leonard doesn’t believe in getting involved in dirty politics, while Bale decides that joining Hitler’s youth program is where the adventure is at. Some great musical sequences, but the villains are silly and the characters flat. Features supporting performances by Kenneth Branagh and Barbara Hershey.
