Surf fanatic Jessie spends his days catching waves with his best buddies, thoroughly devastated when he fails to place in a surfing contest that his older half-brother Victor won years before. Jessie and his friends go on a weekend trip to make waves and get drunk on the beach, Jessie getting it on with one of the sheilas they’ve dragged along while his punk style twin brother Fergus gets moony over their friend Andy. When Victor shows up with his buddies and ruins their vacation, the story takes a dramatic turn that goes from aimless depiction of youthful idiocy to serious post-traumatic recovery. While the first half requires a little patience, the characters are likable enough to hook you in for the second half, with excellent performances and beautiful photography of foamy water and bright sunlight perking up the experience. I’d still rather watch a Bruce and/or Dana Brown movie though.
