While on his way to Los Angeles to begin his new job as a plastic surgeon in a swanky clinic, a young doctor (Michael J. Fox) takes a wrong turn off the highway and ends smashing his car into a fence in a small, dusty town. Sentenced to community service in the local hospital for the damage he has caused, Fox has no idea that the friendships and adventures of the people around him are going to tempt him enough to consider staying permanently. The situation is compounded further when he falls for a sexy ambulance driver (Julie Warner) who looks great in uniform. Charming characters abound.
