Jasminder () is not your average Anglo-Indian girl, rejecting the idea of being set up in marriage or learning how to properly make a family dinner as her family wishes and instead dreaming of being a football player like her hero, David Beckham (this is England, they don’t use the word soccer). Going behind her parents’ back for fear of their anger if they knew how anti-traditional she was, Jas joins a girls’ football team after one of its members ( ) spots her playing around with her guy friends in a park and recognizes her talent.
The two instantly become good friends and later almost lose it all when they both develop feelings for their dreamy coach (), but the real trouble comes when Jas’s family finds out what she’s been doing and are forced to decide if they accept her for who she is or not.
The characters are fresh and fun, the romance angle potent and the friendship between the two stars worth cherishing. Then, on top of all that there’s the marvelousas Knightley’s adorably daffy mother.
