Exquisite sequel to the even more breathtaking Wings of Desire, both directed by Wim Wenders. This time the plotting of the film is more narrative-oriented, not as waywardly poetic as the original film was. Previously, the angel played by Bruno Ganz sought to join the human race he spent all his time protecting, while this time it’s his angel companion (Otto Sander) who performs the same action. Once he finds himself on earth he gets caught up in a criminal investigation that he helps unravel. Endlessly beautiful and faster paced than its predecessor, this one also features an excellent cast that includes Nastassja Kinski and Willem Dafoe.
