Original title: Guerreros
A platoon of Spanish peacekeepers in Kosovo are sent on a routine mission to fix the electricity in the Exclusion Zone. On a stop in their journey, a tense confrontation escalates into full-out machine gun slaughter and the remaining survivors are left in the barren forests of the region to try and survive while continuing on their mission. The central figure of the group (Eloy Azorín) is an individual who goes from naive do-gooder to cold-blooded killer within a matter of days. Daniel Calparsoro’s film is an excellently shot and edited war film that presents a brutal (if biased) depiction of events that are generally kept out of the newspapers during coverage of troubles in the Balkan regions. The symbolism is a bit overripe, but it makes for engrossing viewing.
