Produced by David O. Selznick. Music by Herbert Stothart. Production Design by Cedric Gibbons. Costume Design by Adrian. Film Editing by Robert Kern.
Strongest film version of Leo Tolstoy’s classic novel, starring the magnificent Greta Garbo. As the title character, Garbo threatens to ruin her entire social existence when she spurns her husband for the love of a soldier. Being Russian, tragedy awaits her, and beautifully costumed and photographed tragedy at that. Remade with Vivien Leigh in 1948 and Sophie Marceau in 1997.
