Greta Garbo and Fredric March in Anna Karenina

Strongest film version of Leo Tolstoy’s classic novel, starring the magnificent .  As the title character, Garbo threatens to ruin her entire social existence when she spurns her husband for the love of a soldier. Being Russian, tragedy awaits her, and beautifully costumed and photographed tragedy at that. Remade with Vivien Leigh in 1948 and Sophie Marceau in 1997.
