A Time For Drunken Horses

Bil’s rating (out of 5):  BBBBB.

Original title:  Zamani Baraye Masti Asbha

Captivating film debut from Kurdish director Bahman Ghobadi. Using no music but only the powerful sounds of wind from the mountains of Iran, Ghobadi tells the story of a family of children who have been orphaned by circumstances and rely on their eldest brother to keep the family fed and safe. Unfortunately, life for this boy of thirteen trying to fend for himself and his loved ones is not in the least bit easy. The film is rich with tenderness, beauty and a very powerful sense of humanity. On top of that, Ghobadi has a terrific sense of pace and the film is perfect in its every scene.
