The hysterical gags in this comedy have made sure that it stands up as a classic today. Ryan O’Neal plays a geeky musicologist who comes to San Francisco to compete for a research grant with a much savvier colleague (Barbra Streisand). In true Bringing Up Baby style, her clumsy ways seem determined to make sure that nothing happens to him without accident or disaster. At the same time, a jewel heist is going on in their hotel and the robbers have the exact same style of luggage that our heroes are carrying! Everyone has their own favourite moment in this wonderful film, mine being the thief who trips the rich lady all the way up to her room in an effort to slow her down. Streisand is a riot, and O’Neal has a great time being the Cary Grant character. Also stars Madeline Kahn in her film debut.
