A Merry War

Original title:  Keep The Aspidistra Flying

George Orwell’s classic novel Keep The Aspidistra Flying has been transformed into this enjoyable period romp, one that stars  as an advertising copywriter who decides to quit his comfortable job and try out life as a penniless poet. His artist girlfriend () doesn’t want to hamper the dreams of her beloved but is also worried about his well-being. Checking himself into a grungy flat and getting a meager job in a low-end library, Grant works his craft until he finally publishes a book of prose and spends all the royalties in one evening. This hilarious examination of middle-class morality and the possible connections between intellectual freedom and vagrancy is not always pulled off smoothly, but it is witty and well-acted.
