The Seventh Seal (Det Sjunde Inseglet)

(out of 5)

Visually stunning meditation on life and death by Ingmar Bergman. is excellent as a medieval knight travelling through the world in order to escape Death, portrayed as a hooded figure with a giant scythe (an image that has become a standard part of pop culture ever since). Unfortunately, Death keeps catching up and challenging him to a game of chess; it’s not what it sounds like. The images are unforgettable.
