Bil’s rating (out of 5):  BBBB.  USA/United Kingdom/Japan/West Germany, 1982.  Rankin/Bass Productions, Incorporated Television Company.  Screenplay by , based on his novel.  Produced by , .  Music by .  Production Design by Arthur Rankin Jr..  Film Editing by .

Elegantly produced animated fable about a unicorn (voiced beautifully by ) who goes on a quest in search of others of her kind, none of whom she has never met. Along the way she meets a feebly-talented magician () and a kind-hearted charwoman () who aid her and accompany her various adventures. When she arrives at the castle of an aging king () and his valiant son (), she discovers the truth behind her search and it leads her to some very important decisions. A lovely tale that captures folklore at its truest, the film is sometimes undone by its primitive animation but is rescued by its writing (faithfully adapted from the novel by Peter S. Beagle).
