Wizards

B.5

(out of 5)

Terrible Ralph Bakshi movie that suffers from many of the budgetary problems that often plagued his productions, except in this case it really shows. Two wizards are born of the same mother, one of them peaceful and good, the other one wicked and lusting for power as they battle over the kingdom they inhabit. The story is familiar but still has room for quite a lot of imaginative nuance that isn’t really here, instead replaced by an uncomfortable combination of classic fantasy and punkish modern styles and some incredibly awkward voice work to go with the bad animation. Hardly bearable, it ranks among the director’s least successful efforts.
