Writer-director-star  plays a fictionalized version of himself, discovering during a family dinner with his sister and parents that he has Polish roots. The newfound information about his background becomes an obsession rooted in the search for a cultural identity, leading him to drop his kind, devoted boyfriend and shack up with an illegal immigrant au pere and marry her.  His sister, wholly frustrated by this ridiculous sequence of events that has led her brother to become someone she doesn’t recognize, grabs him away from a family picnic on a whim and drives him to Poland so he can face his new fascination directly. What is supposed to be a quick trip ends up becoming a complicated road adventure involving a bathroom pick-up, a car thief, and even a possible concrete answer to the search for information about Baier’s little-known ancestry. Baier has made a much softer follow-up to his gritty Garcon Stupide, hilariously fun without ever being calculated, lightly directed and guided by a capricious screenplay that is never out of control or uneven. The performances are all impressively realistic, with Baier himself making a great subject for his own “auto-fiction” experiment.
