Female lawyers fighting for justice in Cameroon are the subject of this top-notch film, with cases including a woman who wants a divorce, which in a Muslim country is taboo, from her abusive husband, and a young twelve year-old girl who was raped by a man who insists that she asked him for it.  Gender politics and economic strife are not ignored by directors Florence Ayisi and Kim Longinetto, who keep the viewer fixed on the uppity attitudes of these fabulous legal personalities while also offering a fair shot of defense from the people on the other side of the bench. Terrific cultural primer for a part of the world that has been left to suffer without help from the more “enlightened” west, and a really inspirational film for anyone looking for a genuine hero. Don’t miss it.
