Anyone who loves Apocalypse Now should definitely take a look at this insightful, entertaining documentary that details its creation. Everyone else should see it because it’s one of the best movies about making movies ever made. The original production of Coppola’s ultimate Vietnam epic took four years to complete, suffering the setbacks of recasting, sets being destroyed by rough Philippine weather, the director’s illnesses and star Martin Sheen‘s near-fatal heart attack. What resulted was one of the best movies to ever really capture the absolute madness of the controversial war in Vietnam. The fascinating interviews in this great film are highlighted by home movies taken on the sets by Coppola’s wife Eleanor, and portions of deleted sequences that were later restored in the Redux version.
