The Colour Of Paradise

BBBB

(out of 5)

Original title:  Rang-e Khoda

Beautiful film about a boy who attends a school for the blind in Tehran and then goes home to his mountain village for the summer. There, he luxuriates in the beauty of nature with his two delightful sisters and loving grandmother. His widowed father is looking to make a second marriage for the good of his family and believes that a blind son will be a hindrance for this to happen. He tries to send the boy away, but his actions don’t have the consequences he expects. Human actions are both infused by and have impact on nature in this glorious tone-poem by Majid Majidi (Children Of Heaven), right up there with the best films about children, heartbreaking in both intensity and beauty.
