France/USA, 1975. Jack Rollins & Charles H. Joffe Productions. Screenplay by Woody Allen. Cinematography by Ghislain Cloquet. Produced by Charles H. Joffe. Production Design by Willy Holt. Costume Design by Gladys De Segonzac. Film Editing by Ron Kalish, Ralph Rosenblum.
One of Woody Allen‘s funniest comedies, this joyful film is a hilarious spoof on epic Russian novels and films. In it, a young farmer from the provinces achieves fame on the battlefield and the love of a beautiful woman (Diane Keaton) with whom he suffers under the wrath of an evil tyrant. You’ll laugh your butt off at the clever dialogue and witty sight gags, plus it’s beautifully photographed and features a gorgeous score with music by Prokofiev.
