High Heels (Tacones Lejanos)

High HeelsBBBB.5

(out of 5)

One of Pedro Almodovar’s most heartfelt films is this classy, sexy melodrama about a fragile relationship between a mother and daughter.  is a passionate actress with dangerous romantic entanglements that result in a murder investigation.  She is constantly at odds with her equally willful, zesty mother (), who has just returned to Spain after many years working as an actress in Mexico. The beautiful colours and wildcard characters threaten to inhabit a shallow, silly film world, but the ultimate event that brings these women together is genuinely touching. Great acting and gorgeous photography, all under Almodovar’s as-usual magic touch.
