Hilariously bent comedy-fantasy about a young man (Bud Cort) whose only friend is a mysterious woman (Sally Kellerman) who is also a bird spirit. Cort lives in the fallout shelter under Houston’s Astrodome, preparing a mechanical contraption with which he’ll be able to fly, but throughout the process of making it keeps strangling people who get in his way. This inspires a baffled Houston police force to invite a snazzy San Francisco detective (Michael Murphy) to come to the city and help them solve the case. Shelley Duvall contributes a wonderful performance in this quirky little gem that shows Robert Altman at his most liberated. Accentuated by a wonderful soundtrack (mostly by John Phillips) and a brief appearance by the one and only Wicked Witch Of The West, Margaret Hamilton.
